Spotify now has Aebersold Play Alongs

By David Birrow Birrow.David@MacPhail.org

This will be quick, but I am so excited about it I thought it warranted a post.  Spotify now has all (at least 100) of the Jamey Aebersold play along albums available, free.  Aebersold is a jazz saxophone player  and jazz educator. Over the past 4o years or so he's recorded professional rhythm sections playing standard jazz tunes. The albums were then released along with a book that had lead sheets for the tunes.  The idea is you put on the CD and practice improvising with high quality musicians.  The material varies between music from one composer/musician (Ellington, Parker, Brecker) or categories (dominant 7th workout, ii-V-Is) and there are over 130 albums to date.  This will be extremely useful if you teach jazz improv, not mention helpful (and thrifty) for students practicing at home.
